Window replacement in Nanaimo, by people who live in Nanaimo
Thermoproof windows built 40 minutes down the highway in Cobble Hill, installed by a local crew, with a 5-year installation warranty. Serving Nanaimo, Lantzville, Cedar and Cassidy.
If your house was built between 1970 and 1995, read this
That's most of Departure Bay, Hammond Bay, Harewood, the University District and south Nanaimo. A lot of those homes still have their original aluminum or first-generation vinyl windows, and they all fail the same way: the seal between the panes goes and the glass fogs; the frame sweats all winter and grows black mould along the bottom; the sashes stick; and you can feel the cold coming off the glass from across the room. And if you live near the Island Highway, Bowen Road or the ferry traffic through Departure Bay, you hear all of it.
You can keep wiping the frames. Or you can replace the windows once, properly, and stop thinking about it.
What "installed properly" means on a Nanaimo house
A good window installed badly will leak within two winters. Here's what our crew does on every opening, whether you're watching or not:
- Pull the trim and check the rough opening and sill for rot before the new window goes anywhere near it
- Flash the opening for sideways rain, not just caulk the outside and hope
- Insulate the gap between the frame and the wall so the draft doesn't move from the glass to the edge
- Finish the interior and exterior trim, haul away the old units, and leave the room the way we found it, minus the fog
If we find rot, you'll hear about it before we touch it, with a price for the repair. No surprises on the invoice.
Window styles for Nanaimo homes
- Casement and awning: the tightest seal you can buy, and the best for airing out a damp bedroom
- Sliders: the affordable choice for bedrooms and basements
- For the noisy side of the house: a tighter frame and the right glass package make the biggest difference to road noise. We spec the highway-facing rooms differently from the rest.
- Picture windows: for the Departure Bay and Hammond Bay views you paid for
- Single- and double-hung: for the Old City and other older homes where the look matters
- Patio, sliding and entry doors, done in the same visit

FAQ
Common questions
How much does window replacement cost in Nanaimo?
We won't guess it over the phone, because the honest answer depends on what's behind your trim. For a ballpark, measure your windows and send us the list online; we reply within one business day. For the firm price, after a free 45-minute measure you get a written price for each window, good for 30 days. Most Nanaimo homeowners replace a few of the worst windows first and do the rest later, and that's fine with us.
Retrofit or full-frame: which do I need?
A retrofit insert goes into your existing frame: faster, cheaper, less disruption. A full-frame replacement takes everything out to the rough opening, which is the right call when the frames are rotting, leaking or are the original aluminum. We check at the measure and tell you which one you need, and why. We'll never sell you full-frame if retrofit does the job.
Do you install in Lantzville, Cedar and Cassidy?
Yes. Lantzville to the north, and Cedar, Cassidy and the airport area to the south, are all in our Nanaimo service area.
Will new windows cut the traffic noise?
Noticeably. Old aluminum and single-pane windows pass sound straight through. A sealed double- or triple-pane unit in a tight frame makes a bedroom on the highway side feel like a different room. Tell us which rooms are loud and we’ll quote that side for sound.
How soon can you start?
We can usually measure within the week. Windows are built to order in Cobble Hill, so install timing depends on the factory's lead time. You'll have a firm install date when you order, and we hold it.
Do new windows qualify for rebates?
Many Thermoproof windows meet the energy rating BC rebate programs ask for. We confirm what you qualify for before you order, and some programs need a step done before you sign anything, so ask us first.
